On the snap on box there should be a serial number and im sure you can use that number to determine its manufacture date. I think having a hot serial # search bar would really screw with thieves and pawn shops triing to sell stolen Snap On scanners and being returned to owners sooner, rather than 3 years later, taken from a buyer at next update time.

As one of the world’s top grill manufacturers, it’s no surprise that there are a lot of Weber grills in backyards across the US and beyond. In fact, Weber offers a wide range of styles, models, features, and accessories.

Through the years, as models get updated with new features and technology, it can be difficult for consumers to know exactly which model they have. This mostly becomes an issue when it comes to repairs.

For example, it may be necessary to identify your Weber grill by model number in order to acquire parts. If you don’t have the original manual, you may not know where to find it.

Do you have a Weber grill? Need to know what type of Weber grill you have? Read on as we walk you through how to find your grill type and model number.

There are predominantly three Weber Gas Grill Series (Spirit, Genesis and Summit) on the market. And now there is a redesigned Genesis II.

3 Simple Steps for How to Identify Your Weber Gas Grill

Once you have located the serial number, you can enter it into the search box on the Weber website to determine the model of your grill.

2. Look at the Number of Burners

If you can’t determine the model of your Weber grill based on its age or a plate on the grill itself, you will need to identify certain characteristics on your grill to compare them to existing Weber models. One of the things to look for is how many burners your grill has.

Here is a breakdown of Weber models based on the number of burners in the grill.

Two Main Burners

Grills with two knobs (2 burners) are those in the Spirit Series. They may include a Silver A with side mounted controls, an E/S-210 with Side Mounted Controls (2009-2012 and 2008 older), or an E/S-210 with front mounted controls (2013 and newer).

The side mounted controls are older models of the 200 series, while the front mounted controls are newer models.

  • If your two-burner grill also has 5 Flavorizer bars that are 21 1/2' long and all side mounted controls, it is likely a Weber Spirit 200 , a Spirit 500, or a Silver A.
  • If it has 3 Flavorizer bars that are 15 1/3' long with all front mounted controls, it may also be a Weber Spirit 200 .

Three Main Burners

If your grill has three knobs (3 burners that are mounted horizontally - front, center and rear), your grill is most likely a Spirit 700, Spirit E-310, Genesis 1000-5500 , Silver B (three burners) & C (three burners with a side burner), Gold or Platinum, E/S/EP 310, 320 (side-burner), 330 (sear burner and side-burner), or Genesis II model.

With 310, 320, and 330 models, there were three versions of these grills and, depending on the year, they may have had front or side mounted controls.

  • If your grill started with an “E”, it had porcelain enameled steel (colored) hoods, Cast iron Cooking Grates, and Porcelain Coated Flavorizer Bars
  • If your grill started with an “S”, it had a stainless steel hood, and stainless cooking grates and flavorizer bars.
  • EP was a 'Special Edition' offered through Alliance Dealers. These grills have Stainless Cooking Grids and Stainless Flavorizer Bars.

If you can’t identify your 3 burner grill based on the features above, you can further narrow down your model based on whether you have a wooden or plastic shelf, or by the quantity and size of your flavorizer bars.

Wood or Plastic Shelf?

Does your grill have wood shelves? Then it is most likely a Genesis 1000-5500 and has 13 flavorizer bars.

Does your grill have plastic shelves? Then it may be a Spirit or a Silver series; A model (2 Burner), B model (three burner), or C model (three burner with side burner).

Four or Six Main Burners

The Weber Summit Grills will have 4 or 6 main burners. There is the Summit 400 Series (four burners), the 600 Series (six burners), and the Silver, Gold and Platinum Series.

We always recommend measuring your parts and comparing them to our part description to be absolutely sure.

Does your Grill have wood shelves? Then it is most likely a Genesis 1000-5500 and has 13 flavorizer bars.

Plastic Shelves? These grill would likely be a Spirit or a Silver, A (2 Burner), B (three burner) or C (three burner with side burner)

Older Weber grills (Spirit, Genesis (prior to 2002 model year), and Platinum I/II ) gas grills used a piezo ignition. In fact, it wasn't until the introduction of the E or S series in the Genesis and Spirit that a battery-operated spark generator was introduced.

The Genesis 2007 grills have Side Control knobs and use a 2-port spark generator and have the burners running left to right (Horizontally) and have more BTU's than the older grills.

(2007 Models) ignitor kit. metal gas collector box and electrode.

(2008 thru 2010 models) ignitor kit. white molded plastic collector box with ceramic electrode and wires

Genesis - 2011-2016 had a major change in the burner orientation. They moved from horizontal to vertical. They had used the horizontal orientation for decades. This moved the controls to the front of the grill. This grill uses a 4-spark generator and Heat deflectors

Genesis II Grills have flat tube burners versus round tube burners. All of the Genesis II open cart grills are imported. The closed cart is Made in the US though many of the parts components are imported. These grills have either 2,3,4 or 6 Main Burners.

3. Measure Your Flavorizer Bars

Flavorizer Bars are a Weber grill feature that direct grease and drippings away from the burners. They come in many different sizes and shapes and therefore can give a good indication as to what type of Weber grill you have.

  • Genesis Grills with 13 flavorizer bars are old Genesis 1000-5500 or Gold/Platinum series grills. They have 5 long bars and 8 short bars placed in a cross pattern. These flavorizer bars are available in either porcelain coated steel or stainless steel.

After 2002, 3-burner grills were designed using 5 flavorizer bars that are distinguished by four lengths: 17 1/2', 22-1/2', 23-3/8', or 24-1/2'.

  • 17-1/2' long Flavorizer Bars: Weber Genesis 300 series with front mounted control knobs. (Years 2011-2016). These are available in Porcelain and Stainless steel.
  • 22-1/2' long Flavorizer Bars: Weber Genesis Silver B & C, Gold B & C (2002 and newer models), Genesis Platinum B and C (2005 model), Spirit 700, and Weber 900. Available in Porcelain Coated Steel or Stainless Steel.
  • 23-3/8' long Flavorizer Bars: Genesis Gold (2000 & 2001 models), Platinum B or C (2000-2004). These flavorizer bars in Porcelain and Stainless have been discontinued by Weber. These are only available in the Aftermarket Part WFB5L
  • 24-1/2' long Flavorizer Bars: Genesis 300 series with control knobs mounted on side. Available in Porcelain Coated or Stainless Steel.

I can see where you are coming from, some years ago I bought through ebay a MODIS for £2K that never turned up, I contacted the seller and ebay and eventually got told to go to the police and the police told me to go to ebay and both of them fobbed me off.
I attended a police seminar some years back after this and the police advised us then that stolen goods that are exported they are not allowed to stop it even if they know its there, the powers that be want the tax.
Buy through snap on, recently I asked my dealer for a mot approved tyre tread depth gauge, he did not have one on the van, he looked into the catalogue and checked his computer and said its no longer available?
He made a phone call and I heard the lady on the phone say that the part number had changed, then she started to say something else and the dealer started talking over her and then told me the gauge is no longer available.
I have spent £ thousands with this dealer.
I was going to buy the Verus recently and a snap on rep advised me that the dealers have a loan Verus for us to try out for a week or two then we can decide if we should purchase or not, my dealer not interested and has very little knowledge of the subject if any.
Sorry for crashing your thread, but I don't think anyone is too bothered about the end users, just the sales figures.
